American Crime 3×08 Reaction Post

Tonight’s season finale of American Crime brought closure to the various storylines that wove their way through the previous seven episodes and culminated in the convergence of those stories. We only got to see a few quick shots of Tim’s JD Hesby at the very end of the episode (is anyone surprised), but it was interesting to see how the rest of the Hesby’s story (mainly Jeanette’s) played out.

So what did you all think of the episode, as well as the season in general?

Expect spoilers for the episode – so if you haven’t seen the episode yet and don’t want to be spoiled, you should avoid reading the comments on this post until you’ve watched it.

  1. This has been such a bleak series, but also an important series, maybe the best drama currently on network television. I’m proud that Tim played a relatively small but significant role, and I’d like to think he could become a regular, but AC is on the brink of cancellation. Such a shame. Quality doesn’t always guarantee commercial success.

I appreciate how this season ended, with ambiguity but a touch of hope. Let justice be done, indeed.

  2. It was a very good episode – interesting twist about the Haitian nanny, makes the whole story line more interesting after all – and I really like the symbolic of the finale moment with everyone (almost) facing justice.

Someone commented on Twitter that this season’s theme might be people’s indecency. This might actually be true, and that’s probably why I had a hard time with this season. Seeing so many mean and uncaring people depresses me. I want to believe we can be better than that…

    1. interesting. I would’ve said it was about survival, and how the need to survive often brings out the worst in humanity. And, it was about Americana at its worst, the dark side of American life that mainstream flag-wavers can’t, or just don’t want to, see. And it was about modern-day slavery, in all its different forms.

ABC did, in fact, cancel American Crime. I wish a cable network could pick it up.

By the way, on a completely different subject, I just learned that Carnivale and Tell Me You Love Me, along with a few other gems from HBO, are included with my Amazon Prime membership. So, that helps makes up for the loss of American Crime.
